Hey Team

Just thought I would make a quick note here for everyone to head on over to the Rusty and Mustache Blog to check out the first six pages of freshly baked, sweet comic goodness. I just put them up, and they are aching for people to get their comic on. Tell all your friends, because free comics are awesome.

Goings On

Friday, September 10, 2010

Hey Team

So there is a lot going on around here since Fan-Expo, if you have been staying tuned I am sure that you have noticed. I figured the time was about right to address some of these goings on.

Rusty and Mustache

I am sure that almost everone that has visited our little site in the last week or so is primarily in search of the first six pages of The Adventures of Rusty Blanketts and Mustache Carruthers. So where are our intrepid adventurers? Well the short answer is that they are not quite here yet. The real answer though is that leading up to Fan-Expo we had been talking about maybe switching to a rougher, clean pencils look for the comic. We thought it might look better and be faster for us to get out. Long story short, we tried some stuff out and ultimately decided the comic looked best as it was. The good news is that our little experiment hasn't put us too far behind schedule. The bad news is Rusty and Mustache's debut is going to be slightly delayed. I will keep everyone posted as we get them done, but expect the pages up soon. There will still be artwork going up every day or so until the launch, so keep tuning in and if you haven't already, check out the Rusty and Mustache page to see the artwork that has already been going up, there are a couple of really slick pieces, and there are plenty more to come.

New Things to Buy...ahem... I mean, New Ways to Support Us.

If you haven't visited our store yet, well now is the time. On top of the totally awesome Art of Max Haig sketchbook, we have now added our recent Fan-Expo Rusty and Mustache promo posters. Available seperately at five bucks a pop or as a set of all three for 12 bucks. Get them while they are hot, there are not many left and when they are gone they are gone. Also keep your eye on the store for some more great prints soon and if you see any artwork around the site that you dig feel free to ask about a print of it, we are totally cool that way.

Facebook and Twitter

We finally have both Facebook and Twitter up and running and both are being updated regularly. Adding us on either service not only ensures you will be updated about all the stuff going on at Awesome labs (including when the first 6 pages of Rusty and Mustache go up), but it also makes us feel really good. Like really, really good.

Lastly, we have officially hit 500 unique visitors to the site, and also have noticed a nice jump in our daily page views. I know in the grand scheme of things 500 unique hits is not a big deal, but these modest landmarks have made us very happy and are extremely encouraging. So thanks to everyone for your visits, comments and support. It means a lot.

Stay Awesome

Fan Expo 2010

Monday, August 30, 2010

Hey Team

We made it through our first Fan-Expo sitting on the other side of the table. It was a whirlwind of a weekend and I still can't believe its over already. I have shown up for years and I always come away thinking that next time I should get a table. I am so glad that I finally did (and had a reason to) because we had nothing short of a great weekend.

Being new we had no idea what we were doing Friday afternoon but we learned a lot fast over the weekend and by Saturday I think we were rocking a pretty decent set up. Here is a picture of our set-up from Saturday morning. It didn't change too much after that other than us getting more drawings up behind us.

Speaking of drawings, we had a steady stream of requests for sketches and Max was nothing short of a rock star not stopping till everyone had what they wanted. Sunday he barely moved from his seat and I think I nearly killed him by selling copies of his book for him to sketch in on top of the commissions he took on. Here are a few examples of the stuff he was dishing out.

The main reason we were there was to let the world know about The Adventures of Rusty Blanketts and Mustache Carruthers, our soon to be released free web comic. We had the first ten pages with us as well as some concept art for future arcs, and it was great to finally show them to the public. We couldn't be happier with the reaction they got, and after working on them behind closed doors for so long it was a relief to see our two favorite adventurers embraced so unanimously. So to everyone that dropped by our table over the weekend, whether it was to get a sketch, buy a print, pick up Max's book, or even just to say hi and check out the pages, Thanks so much for your kind words, your support, and for being gentle with us on our first Fan-Expo weekend.

Stay Awesome

Come and see us this weekend!

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Hey Team

Just a quick note to let you all know that we are at Fan-Expo all weekend long in artists alley at booth A173 (right behind the DC booth). Come check us out and get a sketch. We also have Max's book and this is the first place you will be able to pick one up unless you pre-ordered, Max will be sketching in them all weekend for lucky folks who grab one. We also have some sweet prints including three new promo posters for Rusty and Mustache. They are 11x17's, High gloss, and if I may say so they look super slick. The best part is that we just want to get them in peoples hands so we are selling them at the outrageous bargain of 3 bucks each or 2 for 5. A great way to grab your self a sweet poster and help us get this stuff off the ground. Here is what they look like

A final note: things are a little crazy around here with the Con and the Rusty and Mustache launch in the next week or so (sorry Nana, I owe you a call), but look forward to a lot of new art going up in the next few weeks leading up to the launch, as well as a bunch of new stuff on the site. It's all coming soon, I promise.

Till next time
Stay sexy

The Art of Max Haig is Here

Sunday, June 13, 2010

Hey Everyone

I have been looking forward to making this post for quite a while. The time has come and I am very happy that I finally get to make it. “The Book” is officially done and our proof copy is ordered and being made as I type this. I proudly present to the world
“The Art of Max Haig: 64 Slices of Awesome”

We are very proud of this little guy right now. It’s not only the debut sketchbook from Max but it is also Awesome Labs first book. We learned a lot making this book and had no idea when we started how much we didn’t even know that we didn’t know. We really think it turned out awesome and we know you will love it. The book is 9x7 with a gorgeous full colour cover and 64 interior pages of sweet art from Max’s sketchbooks in glorious black and white. Here for your previewing pleasure, a few examples of interior pages to wet your whistle and give you an idea of just how wicked-slick the artwork in this book is.

There are literally 60 more pages of art in this book. It’s literally bursting at the seams with great stuff. Its chock full of arty goodness. You would be a shmuck not to own a copy.

We have made this awesome little book available now for pre-order “HERE” or alternatively by clicking the banner to the right. Pre ordering not only ensures that you will be among the first to receive a copy but it really helps us out a lot with figuring out demand and how many we should order at a time. We are the little guy after all. All books bought will also feature a one-off original sketch on the inside front cover by Max and will also be signed. As an added bonus you can impress hot babes of the opposite sex at parties with your patronage to the local art scene. So run, don’t walk and grab yourself a copy, you will be glad you did.

And don’t forget to let us know what you think in the comments. We love to talk art.

Love

This Week @ AwesomeLabs.ca

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Hey everyone

This past week has been crazy for us. We have been working away on the website, writing web comics, designing characters, drawing some freelance zombies, compositing Max’s book and talking with all the people we met at industry day last week. There is a lot going on, it’s Awesome.

New Stuff on the Site

We have been doing a lot of things to the site over the last week and are happy with how it’s been going. The most common question we get is “What is Awesome Labs Anyhow?” So now we have added the amazing “About Us” tab at the top of the page. As of now there is some basic information about the kind of work we do and services we have on offer as well as a little bit of business philosophy to give a little further taste of just the kind of hippies you’re dealing with.

We also have added Twitter to our little world. Join us on Twitter for those constant updates from us that you just can’t wait for, or just to make us feel good. Nothing boosts our ego like a new twitter follower. On a similar note keep an eye out for our Facebook page in the next few days. It’s almost ready and is a great way to follow us, support us and yes...boost our egos.

The Adventures of Rusty Blanketts and Moustache Carruthers

We got a nice chunk done on this project this week, and we are very close to revealing it to the world. All I can tell you at this point is that it is a comic, it will be starting with web comics and eventually include graphic novels, and that there will be new pieces of art up on the Rusty and Moustache page of Awesome Labs regularly (including a new one just today). Check them out and stay tuned for more on when to expect the first comic pages.

Sheridan Industry Day

I have previously mentioned how much fun we had at industry day this year. The only thing as fun as Industry Day is following up with all the people we met there. We have just begun looking through everyone’s blogs and are getting caught up on our email from everyone. We haven’t been able to get back to everyone yet (we will) and there are still so many graduates we want to talk to. To those of you that we have talked to, it has been a pleasure so far, stay in touch. On that note don’t be shy to e-mail us, we love talking to artists.

And finally the best part of any post... A piece of artwork from around the studio this week.

Industry Day 2010

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Hey Everyone

We just got back in from Sheridan's Industry Day 2010, and I have to say that we had a great time. It was a strong screening this year and everyone involved with those films should be proud. We had a great time talking to everyone and the reaction to our little endeavor was more than we could have hoped for. Thanks for making our first Industry Day as Awesome Labs a swell one. Unfortunately we didn't have time to get around to see everyone today, so if we missed you and you want to talk, feel free to drop us an e-mail. We love talking with artists. A big thanks again to everyone we talked to today and especially to Tony Tarantini and his crew for having us.

Love

RyE
